“The earthly meaning of eternal life was death, and she refused to die.”

I will need to read the original text if I ever learn French. This was the first book I’ve read that is basically a retelling of a story. My favorite part was how she encapsulates some human emotions that so many of us have experienced.

Wasn't so impressed or eager to read it, but overall an inspiring and moving read. The context in which the mother dies makes it feel very distant from the contemporary days, however, Simone's reflections on their relationship are still relatable and make you reflect also today. Finally, the mother relationship to god, or better, what simone understood of it, is very enlightening on how people can have such personalized relationship with the idea of god.
