Off Limits is a novella and is the second release in author Kelly Jamieson's Aces Hockey series and one that I really quite liked! It was very different from the first novel, Major Misconduct, and felt more than just the usual falling-for-your-best-friend's-sister romances that I've read in the past. Yes, Jenna MacFadden was the younger sister of Andrew Ross's best friend, but that was just one of the factors that was preventing Andrew from pursuing her. They were family but this didn't have that taboo element that's found in all the step-sibling stories that have suddenly become this year's "in" romance trope. There was also enough of the hockey element to make this novella feel that it really was part of the series, plus the cameo appearances of familiar characters--especially Marc Dupuis and Lovey Armstrong--from book one.
There was a twist in the story that I didn't anticipate, one that involved Jenna and Andrew when they were in college, and it set the stage nicely as to why Jenna kept her distance from him. A part of me was half-expecting these two to end up in bed while they were home for Christmas, but I was happy with how everything played out, and that they were forced to confront their issues before anything more transpired between them. The epilogue, however, felt a tad off, since it appeared as if it was more about Duncan Armstrong's floundering love life with his model girlfriend than it was about Jenna and Andrew. I guess the point was to set the stage for the next book in the series, but maybe a a line or two about Duncan would have sufficed. Still, Off Limits has become my current favorite in the Aces Hockey series. 4.5 stars, rounded off to five stars! ♥

I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! Another great book. It was short, but not too short to be disappointing. I loved the story line and the flash back added so much to the story. The way the author led the story on, I felt it was going to have a totally different ending until about 75% way through the book.
I cannot wait to see what else this series holds. I can't wait to see who the next book will be about.

A little Christmas cheer, an old flame reignited. Some hot hockey guy thrown in for fun, what could possibly go wrong?
Kelly Jamieson is a great writer and can even make a novella feel like a full length book. Novellas can be hard to connect with but this was an exception. This was a light, fun read.
4.5* A really enjoyable Novella, I really liked Andrew, Jenna and her family. The story itself was fun, sweet and at times hot. I was completely hooked and I ended up reading it in a couple if hours and am now really looking forward to reading more from this series next year.
Overall definitely worth a read, you could even jump straight into this book without having read Major Misconduct as most of it takes place away from Chicago and the Chicago Aces. It's also great if your looking for a short, fun, and light Christmas read. :-)

Even better than the first book
I am in love with Andrew and Jenna! This is such a sweet story about not outgrowing your childhood crush. Plus there's hockey! So it's a win/win. Can't wait to read the next book!!!

Title: Off Limits
Author: Kelly Jamieson
Series: (if any) Aces Hockey book 1.5
Rating:4.5/5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Why'd you pick this book? I started the Aces series and just loved the writing and characters
Summary: The Christmas season always puts a smile on Jenna McFadden’s face. Even though she’s bringing a boyfriend home for the first time, inside she’s dying to see Andrew. Years ago, when the McFaddens took the troubled teen into their home, Jenna had to keep her blazing-hot crush a secret. And now that he’s playing pro hockey for the NHL’s Chicago Aces, nothing’s changed. With his wide shoulders and taut muscles, Andrew’s the most tempting package in the house . . . one that Jenna’s dying to unwrap.
Andrew Ross just can’t make a play for Jenna. Her dad and brothers wouldn’t approve, and he could never betray the trust of the wonderful people who treated him like family when he lost his own. That’s what makes the holidays so hard. Whether Jenna’s skating with Andrew on a frozen pond or sitting on his lap while he plays Santa, she’s pushing all their boundaries—and there’s only so much a man can take. Andrew knows that she’s off-limits. But something deep down tells him that Jenna’s heart is the one prize he simply has to win.
Favorite and Least Favorite part: Favorite: I love the trope of "so and so is off limits" because the argument of "but love" is so nice, and having someone stand up for you like that is goals. And this trope is done really well here.
I don't really have a least favorite part here
If you like this book you might like: I recently found a series, Fandom Hearts by Cathy Yardly, its no hockey, but its soooo good and one of the books has this trope in it

I received Off Limits as an ARC, thank you Net Galley and Random House.
I have a read and tried to read hockey romances. Some of them are so blistering hot that I blaze through them wanting more (Toni Aleo's Assassins series) and others flop. Jamieson's novella is both tough and touching. The characters are likeable and her writing style pulls the reader in. I don't read romance novels in general, I just give the ones with a hockey background a chance and I would definitely pick up another Jamieson novel.
