Not sure about the orphanage setting. Love the idea of a fairy godmother character being a dragon though.

At Griselda Bone's awful orphanage Pheobe and her dancing sausage dog Herb have very little to look forward to; after all daydreaming is banned, skipping is forbidden, and Christmas has been cancelled! But when The Snow Dragon appears Pheobe knows that adventure cannot wait! Will the Snow Dragon's magic be enough to bring Pheobe and Herb their very own Miracle Day?

With shades of Roald Dahl's Matilda and the other-worldliness of Enid Blyton's Faraway tree this is a book both kids and adults will love all through the year, not just at Christmas.

Gorgeously illustrated by Fiona Woodcock, this lovely Christmas magic story is perfect for parents to read or for children who love a magical tale. The story is wordier than most picture-story books so very young children might struggle to pay attention for the whole story but it is ideal for primary aged kids and up.

A very touching story about an orphan girl. Very sad to start with and can be quite distressed for some kids. The adventure part was really magical, and also highlights the miracles of seeing and feeling more of nature. The artwork is just amazing. All up, a very good story for young kids to learn the #1 thing they take for granted: having a mum and a dad.
