It took me a minute to orient myself in this new world but once I did I was completely immersed in the richness and depth of it all and read it much more quickly than I was anticipating.
It started off with an action packed bang and then slowed down for the second half. I liked the balance of predictability and surprise. It was a mysterious and addicting to read. I enjoyed the descriptive and emotional writing style, especially the author describing the inner worlds of the characters. As a neurodivergent who sometimes struggles to read people, I really appreciated this.
The swearing felt excessive and unnecessary so I docked a few points for that. I also feel like the last 3rd could have been tightened up. It dragged a bit in places with some unnecessary scenes. I’m assuming many of the things introduced will become important later and I am looking forward to the next book.

I could have done without the chapter with the Trog, but considering that's my biggest complaint about the book, that says a lot. It contained everything I wanted in a book and there was rarely a dull moment.

Phenomenal first instalment to this new romantic fantasy series. Parker’s writing was so beautiful but not too longwinded and the world building was really well done. Enjoyed the magic system and the beads, and absolutely loved the ‘talking to the creators’ elements. Several mysterious and plot layers revealed and more to come. Kaan & Raeve are heartbreakingly beautiful together and I pray they get their happy ending! So excited for the next chapter.

loved this book!

The descriptions, the world building, the characters, the storyline - all amazing! I couldn’t put it down and cannot wait for what the rest of the series has in store. There as so many avenues that could be explored in the next book/wider series and I can’t get enough!

This may be one of my favourite fantasy books, if not most favourite. I can’t say all the things I love about it without major spoilers but please give this book a chance if you love fantasy worlds.

I’ve seen some reviews that complain about the author’s writing style, however, I felt this provided a deeper emotional connection to the characters and plot.

I wish I could read this book for the first time again.

Well, I looked at the release date for the second book and nearly threw my phone, so I feel like that would tell you something.

*Slightly spoilery but nothing that ruins anything*
I liked Raeve, I'm pissed at Parker for Essi still, and while I saw most of where the story was going, I was so excited to keep reading and confirm it. I did not expect Nee though. Well done.

I need more !! So many plot lines that I’m like what about this what about that BUT overall really enjoyed it. Very immersive and every single detail is specific to this world creation even what they call “day” “bed” etc. everything is fantasy to the final detail.

Found it was too violent and I am trying to avoid unnecessary gore. If you check the trigger warnings, you'll see what I mean.
