Slow, yes. But it’s pretty fascinating to see what pre-socialist Russia was like.

võib suure punase risti kalendrisse (või 'raamatud, mida elus võiks lugeda' listi) märkida nüüd vist
Could never complete reading on my own (sorry Leo). Tragic love stories, especially one with so many politics, have never held my interest for very long. However, the audio book was engaging. Maggie Gyllenhaal did an excellent job and I would have her read to me all books if I could. The story itself is an obvious classic. The look into this particular space and time is unique and worth reading about.
Shout out to the friend who - when I told them I was about 200 pages into reading Anna Karenina - said to me “oh but isn’t it quite depressing - she kills herself at the end!”.
Nice one.

I love this book so much. I'm so glad that we chose it for book club, because I don't think I would have re-read it on my own for a long time, and it was well worth it.
Starting off 2024 with an absolute mammoth.
To write any review would fail to do this book justice. It is the masterpiece everyone says it is and even more. At moments the writing is so sublime it's enough to move you to tears. At other points - like the several long detailed chapters on hunting - are enough to bore you to tears.
It's a perfect book. Go read it.
Also, justice for Seryozha.

Definitely wasn’t as blown away on the reread but I still love this book. Tolstoy has a masterful way of exploring human emotions and experiences.
