Finally, Lady Vespasia Cumming-Gould gets her own story! This book takes place when Vespasia is 30 years old and is attending a house party just before Christmas. Of course there's a murder/suicide involved and Lady Vespasia gets to be right in the middle of it. I'd recommend this to readers who are familiar with the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series in which Lady Vespasia plays a lovable role.
I listened to the audiobook version of this story and enjoyed the narrator.

I listened to the audiobook. Honestly I don’t know why I chose this book after being disappointed with a Christmas Visitor by the same author. I suppose it’s because so many people raved about this author’s Christmas books yet here again I feel like there was nothing truly Christmas related other than the title and the story ended on Christmas Eve. I won’t be reading more by her, at least not with the expectation that I’ll get some sort of Christmas cheer from them.

Not really what I was expecting. Not much in the way of mystery and Christmas only came into it at the end but the characters were well done and I think I'd like to follow Vespasia in more stories.

If I hadn't first accidentally read a book much further on in this series and thoroughly enjoyed it, and if the book had not been as short and quick to read, I don't know what my thoughts really would have been with this. There really wasn't a mystery persay, yes a tragic event and a resolution but I would not have shelved this as a mystery.
