The story itself was interesting, but I think the reader was too mellow for my attention span. I was listening to this next to my usual activities, but my mind kept wandering elsewhere, and suddenly I had no idea, what was happening in the story. I think I would have loved it a lot more if I had read it when my mind would have been less occupied from other stuff. A mellow reader itself isn't bad for given story. As sci-fi was filled with Hinduism and Buddism then the reader should show the mellowness of Buddishm.
Anyway, I was glad to listen to it because sci-fi story meld with religion fantasy worked really well. I just probably would have enjoyed it more if I would have read it myself.

Pure uncut Zelazny. Epic without being obtuse, smooth as a good Scotch whisky and filled with wonder. Masterpiece.

Back before Wikipedia, when there were no reasons not to exult in white-washing and misogynistic retellings of old legends; back then this book was a marvelous success. Now it's less than nothing. A complete waste of time and space. It has not aged well at all, and honestly, fantasy books masquerading as science fiction lose a star by default. This would get less than nothing from me if goodreads let me. For those who know or look up the source legends this is a poor rendition. Replete with sexism and wish fulfillment fantasies. Grab bag powers and unclear motivations for set pieces round this out. This is not character driven, there is no story, and the philosophy is basic. Disgusting.
