I really enjoyed this book, it really kept me guessing who was the murderer. It did take me a while to get names & characters straight, but thr story telling & mystery itself was good!

Even though this is marked as the third book in the series, it's the second one for English translations. Apart from Korner and Werner re-appearing, some of the other characters from "The Tenant" also appear again - Esther and her room-mate Gregers. I like it when series do this. Bodies keep turning up in fountains, killed with a a very old fashioned device that was originally used for blood letting. Werner is actually on maternity leave, but can't stop herself from getting involved in a case that is making news headlines every day. The victims have in common that they all worked at a residential psychiatric facility for kids, called 'Butterfly House'. Butterflies also make an appearance as a collector's item by the former doctor at Butterfly House, Peter Demant. There also seems to be an 'angel of death' operating in the regular hospital, with elderly patients. I was guessing right until the reveal, both about the killer, the angel of death and the latest victim.

This is the 2nd book in the Kørner/Werner series, and this doesn’t disappoint. I love when a series gets stronger, more in-depth with the characters and leaves me wanting more!

This time Werner is off on maternity leave and Kørner has new partner. This book is fast paced and takes place over 5 days - a lot happens in those five days, so buckle up and prepare to be sucked in, you gotta find out who is taking everyone’s blood!

This is where this opens, a nurse giving a patient a lethal injection, and then a paperboy finds a body at the fountains with every bit of blood drained from their body, exsanguination. What a great setup for a murder investigation.

While you the reader are in the dark as well, you get to know the characters so well. Katrine is very good at building relationships with us the reader.

I loved the way it all came together and the Werner gets involved with a new baby!

Thank you Scout Press, Simon and Schuster, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading the rest in the series as they are translated to English!

This book is part of a series featuring Detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner, but works well as a standalone.  Anette is on maternity leave in this book, leaving Jeppe to work with a less enthusiastic partner, which makes a difficult investigation even harder. Anette is feeling overwhelmed with motherhood and misses her job, so she does a little unauthorized investigation that puts her in great danger.

This book has one of the creepiest showdowns with a killer that I've read in a long time! I was afraid to keep reading, but at the same time, couldn't read fast enough! The characters in this are flawed, but likable and I also like the Danish setting. I recommend this series to those who enjoy Nordic Noir or dark, complex procedural thrillers.
