I didn't care for this at all, and gave up around page 100. The language was way too flowery and full of metaphors. It all felt like nonsense, but not the good kind of nonsense. It just wasn't my thing.

So this book had me going back and forth. The first half I was really enjoying it and then we got to around the middle and Maya really started ticking me off and I sort of disconnected from the story. Then with several chapters left, things got good and I was back into it.
I do think that this book was well written without being to flowery or over the top. I enjoyed reading about some of the more traditional Indian mythical creatures, but because they were new to me, I felt a little overwhelmed and I spent just as much time googling the names, so I had some idea of what they might be, as I was reading the actual book.
As I said earlier, some of Maya's decisions really irritated me and made her seem more like a naïve seventeen year old and not a Queen with equal standing with the Raja. I did enjoy how Maya seemed to take the path geared more towards forgiveness, even though she really did have reason to hate. It was also good to see all the loose ends, come together. I am interested in the second book, because I liked the character featured in that one, in this book. I'm hoping she'll be a better protagonist. I was torn between a 3 and a 4 star rating, but since I don't do half stars, I'll just go with 4 because it was a good story.

March 2023: Finally encouraged myself to re-read this book in the hopes of finally finishing this series. It's been so long that I honestly forgot most of the plot points so it felt almost like reading it for the first time. Chokshi's writing style is one of my favorite things about her books, it is incredibly descriptive and atmospheric. I really enjoyed how easily it is to picture such majestic locations with her writing. I've always felt like the romance developed disjointedly, mostly because of the necessary secrecy between the characters. However, I definitely appreciated it a bit more this time around. The ending was a little abrupt, I would've loved more time at the end to really soak it in. I am super excited to finally read A Crown of Wishes soon!

"If you do not doubt, you do not see."
Star-touched Queen, is a novel with a hint of Filipino and Indian culture. I love the fact that the author chose to use Rajas instead of Kings. Swamyamvara instead of traditional weddings and Ranis instead of Princesses. The cover itself was enough to catch a reader's attention, it kinda have the "Wrath and the Dawn vibe on it and it was also intriguing.
Aside from the Filipino-Indian culture, it also has the Greek Myth side on it. Maya and Amar's love story was almost the same as Hades and Persephone's, with a slight touch of Cupid and Psyche.
The writing style was good, the way the places were describe was so vivid, it feels like the reader was there. I'm a little confused at some parts but I always managed to get the over all picture.
This novel is a must read :) I'm excited for the sequel, though it features a different set of characters, I still want to read it!

The writing is so pretty. But I guess that I felt that the story was not as good. I don't know whether it was because I speed read (I always do) and I should have read it slower to really appreciate it?... I felt it took too long to get to the mid-way point (basically, I was getting impatient with this 17-year old) and that the second half could have been elaborated more.

Struggled with this one, the writing style is incredibly beautiful if flowery but I found the romance incredibly irritating and the plot and pacing all over the place. I would have given up halfway through but a talking demon horse shows up.
