read this on my partner’s recommendation and i am so glad i did. can’t believe i decided to break out of a reading slump with a 1100 page book but ‘I god did it work!! before i even finished it i knew it had become one of my favourite books of all time. the characters are so intricately fleshed out, they all felt like old friends to me. so emotionally loaded but so entertaining and funny at the same time, this is the only book that’s ever actually made me cry. i’m already excited for a reread !!!

I wish there was a condensed version of this — it’s just too long, though I appreciate the realism. I loved the characters and how sweet they were to each other (for the most part — Call remains an emotionally stunted man by the end).

Easily the best novel I've read in terms of storytelling and character building. Worth the read.

It’s an epic story, I didn’t enjoy it much but the writing is superb. Nobody writes like this anymore. There’s a lack of imagination in the literary world.
