  • Long read (10 hours)
  • Factually inaccurate about hospitals, has terrible and unrealistic dialogue, and too much italicization (I just don't like her writing style.) The book got really boring after Blue returned. The trauma wore the character due to poor character development.
  • I liked the writing from Louisa.

Relatable if you have mental illnesses. One of the characters is an asshat.

This book was very hard for me to get through the first 80 pages due to the graphic profanity and the confusing nature in which the first 100 pages were written.
I would have DNF’ed but I pushed through and what seemed to be a diary/ stream of consciousness writing style moved to more of a story/narrative style.
We start off by seeing our main character (Charlie) staying in a facility where everyone there struggles with self harm in some way, shape or form.
This however does not last long because the funds that were keeping her there stop coming in. Which unfortunately means she needs to leave a place that was helping her. And she WAS NOT ready to leave.
All of this can open up a discussion about whether people should even be paying to get help from any kind of mental health issue or even other things like paying doctors or pharmacists and so on.
Overall the book was fine. It wasn’t the greatest is wasn’t the worst.
I’m glad that close to the end it showed people who might be in a similar place as Charlie that there is HOPE and that things can get better.

This book is so emotional, but can be regarded as hopeful for those who have struggled with depression or self harming. I fell in love with it immediately and cried my heart out many times. If you like emotional and sad books, like me, this is for you. If you prefer more happy and lighthearted books then it might be best to find something else. But I give this book a 10000000000000/10
