‘Girl in pieces’ by Kathleen Glasgow, oh.my.god. my poor little heart has quite literally been shattered into tiny little pieces and i think this book will leave a heavy indent in my brain for a long time- it was utterly, dangerously beautiful and melancholy and so so sad it could damage my tear ducts in the long run. Charlie was an extremely sympathetic character and i became extremely attached to each and every bond/relationship she had, despite the book mostly being very dark and at times unsettling and difficult to read, the ending was so unquestionably gorgeous and i was so happy i wish i could crawl into the pages and hug her and tell her how proud i am of how far she came, i feel bad for Riley although i know that their paths were meant to touch but not be side by side forever, in order for both of their journeys to become clean and happy. wow. simply wow. thankyou Kathleen for this masterpiece and the highlighting of such an important subject/subjects (cutting, depression,sa,addiction) that aren’t spoken about enough. rating- 5 bright stars out of 5 ‘like salt against the sky’ ‘like someone spilled the shaker against very dark cloth’/ i made mum read the first page and she was particularly drawn to those quotes, as was i (finished saturday 8th january at around 11:50pm)
