Maybe it’s because I’m in therapy already working on some of this but there was nothing earth shattering here for me. I also felt like the language was not always inclusive.

I love the idea of the book, but it felt kind of gimmicky. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the testimonials.
I really enjoy and understand the concept of emotional intelligence but I think this book focuses too much on a specific workplace dynamic that only exists for some people. Not everyone works in an office with multiple people that interact in a programmed why and I think it’s a disservice to the reader to primarily show how the techniques brought up in the book relate in such an environment.

This book was recommended reading for a communications class, and one I had heard about before and was curious to read. It was a quick, easy read with a couple of solid nuggets throughout.
The only other thing that I would like to see in this book is examples of common "bad" EQ situations... Not the really obvious situations like when someone yells at the babysitter because she put him to bed at 7pm instead of 8pm, but more subtle wrong moves that I and others wouldn't necessarily realize we are making.
I read this in preparation of my training next week and am so glad I did. I hope to implement some of the strategies now that I’ve taken the Appraisal and seen what my strengths and weaknesses are. While going through, there were some that I wanted to implement, even if it wasn’t a true weakness. I’m excited for the opportunity and will probably re-read this every six months or so when I re-take the appraisal and see how I’m doing with my (hopeful) progress.
