A fun, interesting, informative and often hilarious tale of Albert Podell's life-long journey around the world, visiting all 196 countries! Great read if you like to travel or just want to travel vicariously ;)

I had wanted to read this, then when we got it in at the library I noticed the author was a former Playboy editor and described the book as "raunchy" in the intro. Um. I was worried. And there were girl chasing stories and some kind of crude double entendres. But I was still amused at this at times hilarious journey around the world in spots over decades, amazed especially by the stories of how he got in and saw countries that don't usually allow visitors. (most of the round-the-world travel books I read never, ever go to North Korea. Or Angola. Or Myanmar. Or South Sudan. Duh.) So all in all, Funny Playboy Goes Around the World was worth it. Even as he evolved from playboy to old lech. LOL (Story of him getting slammed by a British college student in Africa had me rolling on the floor!)

It's a unique story, and he has a great turn of phrase and is a very good writer and storyteller. There are times though when he gets a little long-winded or focuses a slightly uncomfortable amount on trying to hook up with young women. Understandably, most of the book focused on Africa since that's where most people know the least about. I wish there had been a little more variety in regions, though.
