Just a short review to express my thoughts.

I heard about this book for some time, and I can say, I was very curious and wanted to read it. And lo and behold! my library had it!

The book was absolutely stunning, the illustrations are dark, haunting but also very beautiful. Though they tend to give you goosebumps when we get to the big monster.

The story itself was beautiful. It was a story about loss, about truth and about saying what is on your mind. Also deals with children and sick parents.

And really, while most of the book just spooked me out (the stories told by the monster add to that), the ending was just beautiful, and sad. I cried a few tears.

I would really recommend this book to all. Read it!

I am crying big boy tears. 5 stars.

This book was such a great book about grief and loss and how telling stories helps us to face the world. It is so beautifully written and the plot is so incredible, it reminds me of a fairytale or a Neil Gaiman book. It’s so lyrically written, and the illustrations SO much add to the story. The characters were so interesting, and the dialogue was so fun and punchy!!! Everybody talks around the point the entire novel because the truth is too heart wrenching to deal with. Patrick Ness is a master of subtext dialogue. I LOVED Conor’s character and his growth!!! This book is so deserving of his accolades, it was sooo good!!!
