I enjoyed The MacKinnon's Bride very much even though I felt that certain conflicts in the book were resolved rather quickly and easily and there wasn't much climax throughout the book.

However, the blossoming romance and sexual tension between Iain and Page was just so sweet that the book remains on top of my re-read list.

I found this book tedious to read. I thought the characters lacked depth and I wasn't rooting for them at all. I really had to make myself finish this book rather than abandoning it.

I also didn’t finish this book. It’s like a bad version of Outlander. I guess it’s fine. I’m probably being harsh. It just didn’t capture my attention enough to actually finish it

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the rest of the series. Iain was a great MMC, and his relationship with his son Malcolm was so sweet, I hope he gets a story later in the series all grown up. Page was also a great FMC, she felt well rounded and didn’t feel tropey. Their relationship also progresses at a good pace. Would love to catch a glimpse of them in other books.

Great story

Lovable characters overcoming what life gave them. I loved the story and setting (time/place), but I loved the heroine best.

What I liked:
  • Broc was so sweet eventually. I liked seeing a friendship form between him and Page.
  • Malcolm, Iain’s son, was an obvious highlight. I wish he had more moments to shine.
  • I liked how much Iain admired Page and wanted to protect her. His perspective was cute to read because of all of the little details he noticed about her.
What I didn’t like:
  • I really just felt so underwhelmed by this.
  • Page grated on my nerves so much. I understood her trying to escape and being defensive at first but it went on forever, even after she got to know Iain and his men better.
  • The author made a big deal of how Iain’s wife’s death haunted him so much and all of his nightmares. I really expected him to find some peace or closure or something. That part of the plot seemed to just peter out.
  • The entire book was spent in turmoil and mystery to the point where we didn’t get to see our couple actually in love. No epilogue either. So extremely unsatisfying.
  • The whole plot line of her dad coming back and wanting her again also seemed completely random. I wish his motives were explained more or something.

Page is the worst heroine ever. She was so so annoying. And if she called someone beast or brute one more damn time I was going to murder her. I only finished because I thought she had to freaking get better... but NOPE. She was still horrible at the end.

The heroine is a shrew

I think the writer thought she was making Page sassy but she was a shrew. For most of the book, she argued and said rude things to everyone. That's not sassy, that's just being nasty.

It wasn't all bad but it wasn't up to the standards of what I'm used to in my historical romances.
