I loved this short illustrated story about an older lady who finds the Holy Grail in a thrift store and doesn't want to part with it because it looks nice on her mantle. It's charming and clever, but it also pulled at my heart, and the art is unbelievably beautiful.
This is a beautiful adaptation of a Neil Gaiman short story. It's worth it for the lush illustrative art history you get alone, style adapted to reflect Arthurian legend and soft, wholesome fairytale at the same time.
While this is a lovely and simple story, the illustrator notes a few times that it's meant to be comedic, and I got less of that from this version. I also felt a little dissatisfied by the ending, which happens to me often with short stories, and Gaiman is unfortunately no exception to this.
Do recommend to have a copy of this just to gawp at repeatedly, though.

I enjoyed this as a quick afternoon read, but overall the art style wasn't my favorite and the plot was pretty slow.
"Mrs Whittiker found the Holy Grail. It was under an old fur coat... On it was a sticker with the price: 30p. 'This is nice,' she thought. 'It'll look nice on the mantlepiece.' "
So commences Neil Gaiman's short story about an old lady who finds the holy grail in a charity shop, brings it home and is them persue by St Galahed to fulfil his quest.
If Neil wrote it, at some point I'll read it. And chances are, I'll love it. There's something exceptional about this man who is my favourite living author. He has a magical way with words and we hold a lot of the same interests. Much of what he writes is somewhat dark and murky, somewhat strange and weird, somewhat fantastical and speculative. This story is not dark in the way American Gods and Coraline are dark, nor is it as adventurey as Nervewhere nor as hilarious as Good Omens. But it is Neil's trademark perfection.
I listened to this book on a day that was really difficult for me. I won't say Neil Gaiman fixed the problem, but his words did help.
I recommend the audiobook because it comes with a forward read by the man himself.

My first Neil Gaiman experience. I found the blissful ignorance of the main character quite endearing.

It's a cute graphic novel, and I chuckled at the end. This copy offers insights from the illustrator and some preliminary drawings and ideas.
I think that I must not have been the target audience for this one.
