The plot and central characters are understood early on. Austen throws a few twists at the end, but what's compelling is the exploration of ethics and morality. Austen does it again! Would recommend.

The first half was a slog but the pace picked up in the second half. Not sure if I would call this a happy ending though.

some parts of this book i absolutely adored, its more of a 3.5 than a 3, but so much of this book is PAINFULLY IRRELEVANT AND BORING. overall though, i would read austen again! some bits of this were so beautifully written that they will stick with me, but i did not care for PAGES AND PAGES of literally nothing happening.
People always talk about Fanny being a really weak heroine. She's not. In fact, she's probably the smartest heroine that Austen writes. She's certainly the smartest person in the book. No, the real weak link in Mansfield Park is Edmund, the romantic hero. He's sexist, pompous, self-righteous, and frankly, insufferable. Every time he talks, I yell, "Shut up, Edmund!" at the book. I always view the end of the book as tragic, because Mr. Crawford, who is so much more interesting and fun to read about, falls spectacularly from grace. How much more would I enjoy this book if he had redeemed himself and ended up with Fanny? SO MUCH. Really, it's no wonder that there's never been a good film adaptation of this book. It's hard to make Edmund seem cool. Still, I enjoyed it, and even though it's not my favorite Jane Austen book, it's still pretty darn good.
loved, loved this wonderful novel. so witty and deep. very different from p & P and s & s. much more mature and insightful....didn't even think it could be possible to love austen more than i already do.

Must admit, I didn’t enjoy this at all. Credit for author’s writing - there were many well turned phrases. And the descriptions of Mansfield Park make me want to go to the English countryside. But the plot was plodding and the characters were not compelling. Most disappointing was the lack of buildup in the main couple’s relationship - there was no romance and thus no payoff. Glad to have read it, won’t be reading it again. Side note: I did watch 2 adaptations and the one with Johnny Lee Miller was enjoyable
3 stars. My last Jane Austen novel and now I’m sad. I now only have a couple of her short stories left before I’m all done with her work. This one unfortunately wasn’t a favorite of mine, it was very dry but I’m glad that I’ve finally read it even though it’s unnecessarily long. Some of the characters were interesting and the writing (of course) was really good but the plot itself wasn’t the most entertaining thing ever. I plan on re-reading all of her work at some point so maybe I’ll have a better time with it the second time around but as it is, it was just okay.
