Only Jane Austen could write a 600 page novel with no lovable characters and it still be brilliant. I loved this book, not for the characters, but for the depth and complexity of the moral quandaries and societal commentaries. Definitely Jane Austen’s most complex and heady book.

I'm conflicted with this one.
Why Jane why? Why did you have to make them cousins??? I loved Henry Crawford. Despicable as he was, he had great potential to be redeemed. Why did you have to do him so dirty😭
Fanny and Henry would have been a prefect "opposites attract" or "she could fix him" couple🥲
Edmund is a darling but he's her cousin for god's sake 🫠🫠🫠. He even considers Fanny a sister throughout the book. Even towards the end, when the scandal was brought to light and Edmund was sent to fetch Fanny he called her "his only sister"🫠🫠🫠
Why would you make them endgame???
Also is Fanny dumb or what? I relate to her strongly (perhaps the most relatable Austen heroine for me)but can't you see that Edmund loved Mary Crawford throughout the book and only in the last chapter realised that he loved you? How could you settle for being his last choice? He even said he could not imagine any other woman as his wife but Mary Crawford?? At least Henry Crawford, playboy as he was, came to deeply love Fanny.
Henry, my boy, you did some awful shit but you really could have had a redemption arc. Miss Austen, I regret to say but this book has left me disappointed for sure.
