read this for like the 4th time and i am so surprised this didn’t annoy me like crazy until now:
Fanny: i don’t like you, and we’re not compatible, i can’t marry you
Mr. Crawford (vain flirt with corrupted character/morals): that’s what she says but she actually likes me she is just shocked and embarrassed
Mary: Fanny is such a lucky girl to have his attentions
Sir Thomas: Fanny you are so ungrateful, so selfish to decline a proposal from such a well established gentlemen. She’ll like him eventually, so until then i’ll have him continue coming over while i scheme to make her like him
Mrs. Norris: Fanny is spoiled, ungrateful and doesn’t even deserve any of this
Edmund: Fanny will like him eventually
Fanny: no i seriously don’t like this guy! we’re seriously not compatible!
everyone: you should accept him
!?

Mansfield Park is the antithesis of what you would expect from a Jane Austen novel. Our leading lady, Fanny Price, lacks the wit and charisma of a typical Austenian protagonist, the romance itself has almost no development or substance, and the entire supporting cast is insipid.
However this novel shines in the ways it exposes the hypocrisy, foolishness, and cruelty of human nature specifically regarding (but not limited to) the upper class. For this task the meek and moral Fanny is the perfect vessel as she is the only character truly blameless and
wise in the lineup. Furthermore, she is the perfect bridge from the poor to the rich (although she does not fit in particularly in either class).
As with all Austen novels, this one is worth the read and filled to the brim with the author’s charm, wit, and awareness that reinforces why she is so celebrated and
timeless.

I would LOVE a rewriting of this one from the point of view of Mary Crawford
