3/5

This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I’m just as surprised as you are that it’s getting 4 stars from me

I love Mansfield Park. There, said it. Honestly though, it's the Austen I've had the most interesting conversations about, mostly because it's probably the least accessible from a modern standpoint in terms of action/ Fanny's passiveness, and Fanny is so easy to dismiss as a heroine.
I was rooting for the wrong guy all along and that killed my momentum in reading. It was with her cousin all alonggggg

Poor, meek, noble Fanny. How good she is and how contemptible her family. How moral she is against that rake's pursuits, what a paragon of feminine sense and sensibility, etc., etc.
I like Jane Austen, but I found this so dull. There was not one character I truly enjoyed, and the story was too long for so little to happen that interested me. The subversion of the "reformed rake" trope was interesting, however.
