This book was chaos. It felt like Cruel Intentions meets Fear. Aubrey is...I say this with affection...naïve and lost. Chase/Dare is a straight up psychopath. Not a bad boy with psychopathic tendencies. He's a LITERAL psychopath. Their relationship is full on toxic. Dare has a murderous sociopathic girlfriend, Anae, who he decides to play along with her game to torment Aubrey. Side note, I very much enjoyed her character, would have read a WHOLE book on a "romance"/dynamic between these two and CANNOT wait for her return. Anyways, Dare doesn't care about Anae's games and has his own game in motion. And poor Aubrey is just along for the ride.
And THAT ending...this is definitely a maybeee HFN but definitely not HEA. It seems like the author has set up for a second book with Hannah (Aubrey's bestie). I adored their relationship and Hannah in general so please don't ruin them. BUT I am here for the envitable Dare/Hannah showdown.
Finally, I think every trigger warning applies to this book. Honestly, Dare should be trigger warning in itself. But yeah, good luck and maybe drink a bourbon or two while reading this insanity.

Amazing!!
Loved this book even the twisted parts. The story sucked me in and I finished it in a few hours.

I love Sam Mariano. Her style of writing (at least what I've read) isn't quite 'dark romance', but it is definitely dark, twisted love.
I was nervous going into this because of the reviews, but I really shouldn't have been. I love the naivete of the FMC and the control of the MMC. I kept wondering why people were calling Dare crazy...but you have to go through it all in Aubrey's eyes. It's a slow build up, a creeping of anxiety, a trace of "something is not right", until you finally have that moment of clarity! But by then, it may be too late.
I need a quick breather after this one, but it was genuinely an enjoyable read and I'm sure the rest of the series will be too. But please, take the TW seriously. They are absolutely present, and this is absolutely not for a lot of people. But if you can handle depravity, this book may be up your alley.

As sheer entertainment and escapism, this is a five, but as romance… Maybe not so much. That said, Dare and Aubrey made an intriguing match. Aubrey is up to her eyeballs in commitments and has no room to even breathe. A relationship is out of the question, but Dare is an OTT, possessive H who refuses to take no for an answer. He colors outside the lines because the lines don’t exist for him. This is definitely not a read for the safety squad because Dare is truly something of nightmares. This is not the guy you bring home to your parents even if he would charm them to death (maybe literally). It’s easy to see how they fit together, but leave your judgment at the door for this one…
