adventurous dark funny tense medium-paced

A fun and lighthearted read. I like how the author drew inspiration from fairytales while still making the story feel original. I enjoyed this but it didn’t blow me away.

Excellent book, really enjoyed it, it is more detailed and thorough than the TV show.

It just wasn't that good. Honestly makes me want to revisit my ratings for the other Witcher books, but this one suffered from a lack of overarching plot. And I've never seen so much "male gaze" in a book before, I did not like Geralt's "first monster" background and Yennefer's introduction was also underwhelming for that reason.

This was just kinda frustrating to read because I loved parts of this book, but I disliked others.

I thought the concepts this book introduced are pretty dang great and I also quite liked a few of the characters and some of the short stories. But then there's also some of the stories where I just genuinely didn't care or just didn't like them. I didn't like the Yennefer story. I didn't care for the Cintra story.

Also yeah I've seen others bring this up but I have to as well: This book does have a sexism problem. From the descriptions the author uses for some female characters to the fact that it handles one scene where a woman gets saved from rape quite poorly.

I don't know if I'll keep reading this series. On the one hand I'm curious to see what'll happen next, but on the other I think I don't care enough to keep going.
