Jewish readers, know that Carey's fantasy Jews are all explicitly Messianic and that the name of God is going to be on the page over and over again. I don't know enough about the Roma to speak to their fantasy equivalent's representation

Lots and lots of shitty stuff about body ideals that aren't worse than  mainstream media, just more explicitly spelled out than you could normally get away with because of the fantasy setting, and maybe the age of the books

I enjoyed this series when I read it 15 years ago, but  there are other stories for me to revisit or find new

Could use more bears.

The whole "dark ~ evil / fair ~ good" is more pronounced in this volume and the descriptions, or lack thereof of dark skinned people is pretty gross tbh.

I remember finding this one more boring the first time around some time in the 10s via paper, but I enjoyed it more as an audiobook I think.
