DID NOT FINISH

I can't read about torture. It makes me sick.

The premise of this book was great - historical fiction and witchcraft. It is short but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t room for characterisation. Unfortunately this didn’t happen for me - neither character really seemed distinct from the other. This made it hard to follow, especially when you consider that the pages were not laid out clearly. A lot of the time I wasn’t sure who was speaking. This book seemed to have some lofty themes about women’s place in society but this just didn’t work for me either, I think because it was too short. It just felt like it was shoehorned in rather than being part of the actual plot. I think I’d have enjoyed it more if things were clearer and it was a more substantial story.
