This had to be one of the most disappointing and frustrating endings to a startlingly good series ever.

i did not like that ending

As I was expecting, a delightfully creative finale to a great story. Good job.

Definitely not what I was expecting. The whole series was like a roller coaster. I never knew which way it was going or if it would start going backwards. This one was a little tedious to get through the beginning. But that ending.... who wants to talk about it??? It is going to be in my head for a while. Definitely gave me things to think about.

I am not sure I can come up with the words for how brilliant and poignant this trilogy is. It's fantasy mixed with a shockingly real dystopian future that has such relevant political and social currents running through it that it often overwhelmed me. I will read it again and again for the rest of my life. I recommend to everyone who likes to think about the possibility of a world with "no guns, no surveillance, no drugs, no debt, and greed holds no sway at all."

UPDATE: the more I think about the ending of this series the more upset I become. This is the book I always come back to when reviewing series conclusions as being one of the most disappointing and weird endings. I do not like when I spend the time learning the rules of magic within a fantasy world, and some last minute change is thrown in right at the end to either help the main characters get out of a pickle or make the ending more exciting. It's too bad because I really enjoyed the first two books. Upon reflection, I would not recommend this series.

Overall I would recommend this series. There was political intrigue, action, magic, a strong female lead, 3-dimesnional characters. I thought the story was complex and interesting and was very readable for young adult fantasy readers and adult fantasy readers. However, the ending was overall unsatisfying to me and felt a bit like a cop out. I would still recommend the series, I just wasn't completely happy with it. The first two books were 4/5 for me but the ending made this one a 3.

*SPOILERS BELOW*

My one complaint about the ending was that I feel like Kelsea being able to kill a major character in the middle of the final battle scene and completely re-write the future was a bit of a cop out. It felt at odds with the world that had been established and it also felt a little like the author didn't know how to end the book with everyone living. Personally, it was also frustrating that only Kelsea remembers the alternative universe and she is forced to entirely rebuild her life. I understand the author was trying to make a point about her sacrificing everything for her kingdom, but it felt like a weird sacrifice to make.
