Honestly worse than I woke up and it was all a dream, loved the series but the ending wasn’t for me which is so annoying! I loved the main character and she just got nothing for all her work in the end.

Well that sure wasn't what I was expecting.

This trilogy wound its way through the genres of fantasy, dystopia, scifi, and more, and created a compelling epic story that didn't overwhelm. I enjoyed the world established in the first book, wasn't so sure about the second book, and was conflicted and gratified even further in the third book. Johansen's characters are flawed and relatable, and her story is well constructed and executed. This is a hard one to review without spoiling, and I think it could easily be a controversial ending, but I for one feel satisfied with the final resolution.

I loved the end (which is a different reaction from most of the other folks who reviewed) -- I was shocked at first, but then it felt right that Kelsea has the chance to wipe that slate clean.

I hate when authors really fudge up the last book in a series. Ugh. I wanted more. It’s not like it was a “bad” ending but it didn’t suit what I wanted or expected.

I haven’t felt this betrayed by an author since Sarah J Maas with A Court of Mist and Fury. I loved this story so much. It’s had so much potential. A medieval world set in the future. A queen who isn’t beautiful and perfect, who has a friend with benefits? A spunky little girl assassin with a strong moral compass? Come on! The ending quite literally negated everything, EVERYTHING, I loved about the series. The characters I came to love no longer exist. The bright future I was teased with throughout three entire books, the future built by the flawed heroine, gone. Completely erased. I can’t believe I wasted my time on this.

Super disappointed with the ending. Seemed too easy.

I've really loved this series and couldn't wait for this last book to come out. I was on the library wait list before the book was published ! This is not my typical genre but that made it more fun. My only comment is that this series is best binge read all three books at once. The author has so much going on that she doesn't waste time reminding readers about what happened previously. There were several plots and characters I was fuzzy on and think I missed details because I was scrambling in my memory to remember what happened in previous books. I guess I will just have to reread all three over again!

WOW. what an ending!

Meh. The ending makes the whole series regrettable.
