I’m really conflicted. I loved almost everything about this book.... up until the 85% mark. It made some sense yes, but it wasn’t quite the ending I was hoping for. I feel deflated. Unsatisfied. I might have more thoughts on this later.

The ending is the biggest mind f in all of literature. I'm so confused.

i was kind of unsatisfied with this ending.

spoilers ahead!!

the thing I loved most about this series was the relationships Kelsea made with her friends. I found it heartwarming. having the book end with no one knowing who she was or having any memory of those relationships wasn’t fun for me. it was still an interesting read for sure and wrapped up the series well but I couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied by the ending.

I just finished this and at a loss for how the ending went down. The first book was amazing, the second book was pretty good but then this one seemed pretty slow and less intriguing. The ending felt very rushed compared to the amount of detail that went into earlier chapters. I admire the author for giving a twist ending and can appreciate it logically but I'm still not happy with it. No closure with the characters, the snippets of quotes from Kelsea at the start of chapters was apparently irrelevant, and everything we read about was wiped out and never happened. I spent most of the time reading the last chapter trying to figure out what was happening. Is Kelsea in the future, the past, a Wizard of Oz sketch where none of this shit actually happened?! Spoiler alert, it's all basically a dream that only Kelsea remembers. I'm kinda confused though, does her foster mom in the new future recognize her and also remembers the past? I wasn't sure what was happening with that closing paragraph. And if the foster mom (who's name I already forgot) does remember, does she only remember up to the point of Kelsea leaving the home on her 19th birthday and nothing that Kelsea went through after that? I'm confused. Help me out people...
challenging emotional mysterious sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I've seen a lot of conflicting reviews on this book.
But in my opinion it is absolutely brilliant perfection!

"as always, the story was the compelling thing, worth all of its suffering to find out the ending.

Tearling

What would you give for an Utopia?

The way Johansen constructed this dystopian world had me in awe!
The reality of it so pure and believable. You fall into this books and just disappear.

The plot twists knocked me out of my socks, so cleverly hidden in plain sight that you want to kick yourself for not noticing. I'm usually good at figuring out plot twists way before they happen, but not with these books. It keeps you working hard on theories, only to throw a curve ball so wide that it never even crossed your mind.

Tearling Jewel

I fell in love with Kelsea from the very beginning. She is a strong minded individual with real live issue all of us experience every day. But she's also a Queen, willing to do anything for her people.
But don't let this decisive you, her struggles aren't easy and you will suffer with her every step of the way. Johansen makes you feel every drop of sweat, blood and tears.

I truly enjoyed my journey throughout the Tearling.

Spoiler...
Has anyone thought that just maybe there is Tear-Jewels in the Royal Family?
Just a silly thing I've noticed.
the Queen

Bah! I was so flipping excited to get my hands on this book.
And don't get me wrong I still love the characters and for the most part I really enjoyed the story it's just about 2/3rds of the way through this book I realized I had a million unanswered questions and not much book left. The last third of the book is extremely rushed. It gets sloppy, questions are left unanswered, and there are plot holes the size of the Tearling. I liked the series, but in the end it was just ok.

it was like after 400 pages someone reminded her this is supposed to be the end of the series.

I have no idea how to feel about this book!

I love the characters and I will forever want a Queens guard like Kelsea's but damn, that ending.

I love Kelsea and the supporting character in this, they are some of my favourite characters and they will stay with me for a while!

I really liked the story in this book but I wish more good things happened, it just seemed like there was bad thing after bad thing. The Red Queen died which was probably a good thing but you still felt bad, Mhurn is her dad but she killed him, her mothers alive but an idiot, the Holy Father is attacking the keep, the Fairwitch creatures are attacking the tear, all the past people are dying, Aisa dies, Pen can't love her and to top it all off an ending where nobody remembers her and she is no longer queen!

I literally have no idea how to feel this book is so well written and so so good and this series is just amazing but I just can't deal with it!

I will probably rewrite my review when I can think straight and have some constructive things to write, overall as of right now I am slightly heartbroken but this series will always be one of my favourites. Kelsea is just too great!

this was dark and creepy but so action packed, i loved it. then i got to the end…that ending has me fucked up.
