5 stars!! This book was epic and fantastic!
I think I might be one of the last horror lovers to read this door stopper, but I’m glad that I finally got to this.
I’ve been a McCammon fan for some time.
He’s a favorite author of mine but I’ve never read Swan Song.
It was due to book size, not because I wasn’t interested in the overall plot or genre.
Swan Song is an apocalyptic masterpiece that starts with the world being destroyed and showing the battle between good vs evil.
Sure, there are many books out there with this type of plot, but this is one of the best!
The plot is excellent from the beginning of the nuclear apocalypse, the journey of our brave characters, to the evil that hunts them down.
The amazing thing about this book is not just the writing, which is brilliant, but it’s also the characters.
Characters to love and HATE. Not just “kind of” hate, but despise. A blinding rage of hate that will have you hoping good will prevail.
This type of characterization will not let you be BLAH about your emotions. It will be strong, emotional and you will be gripped with anxiety not only for characters you love, but for the world at large.
One last thing that I loved about this book is the magical realism with Swan, the Job's Mask condition, Friend, and many other things. I loved the fantasy piece to this book as well!
Definitely recommend Swan Song to everyone.
Don’t sleep on this one because of page size. Try to get to it one day, and the sooner the better!

I found this 900 plus pages story an engaging summer read, but hardly a classic. Several characters were more developed than others - i.e. Sister, Josh, Macklin, Roland - and yet Swan, the namesake of the novel, seemed minuscule in comparison. Perhaps it was because of the time, where woman are portrayed as such, weak and somewhat feeble. But then again, Sister's character starkly contrasted with Swan's character...
I also thought the romance aspect to be pushed, especially since the love interest, Robin, fell into the plot more than 3/4ths of the way through.
As I said above, interesting, but no Stephen King.

Love a good apocalypse story! Really well written, kept me interested. Pretty long. Tons of detail and follows multiple characters and how they get through the end of the world. Pretty solid good/evil thing, and it would have been 5 stars but there was a devil type character (similar to the stand) which made it feel a little religious which I didnt love.
This book. I’m so glad I blew up my TBR to read this. Everything I heard about it, it lived up to the hype. From the start, it didn’t let off the gas. Every POV was fully fleshed out and important. The battle of good vs evil was so gripping and I just don’t think I’ll ever read something like this again. Truly special and a pleasure to read. Now to read more McCammon.
Greatest book I've ever read. Compelling and engaging from start to finish, brought out emotions I never thought I'd feel reading a horror novel. Brilliant brilliant brilliant!
Read this in print ages ago, and listened to the audio book over the past year. I initially rated this one three stars, as my memories of the book were just too dim for me to know if my positive impression of it was just cloudy nostalgia or otherwise. Having given it a fresh listen, I'm upping it to 5 stars and putting it on my "Favorites" shelf. This is just a blast, and super-long "doorstop" book that never seems to drag, at least not for me.
