A fun, solid read with a lovely cast of interesting, varied characters and a nice art style.

I've been really into superheroes lately, and Robyn's antics are your typical ass kicking, quick quipping fun. No complaints there. I'm also always a fan of more LGBT+ superheroes (and characters in general), so that was a great surprise. However, for most of the volume I didn't feel as though the greater storyline/premise was strong enough or visible enough to keep the pages turning for me. Each case was entertaining and held my attention, but it felt like a lot of build up with more of an emphasis on what Robyn and Marian can DO instead of who they ARE. The idea of returning from a magical world and having to readjust is so interesting, yet it was hardly explored until the last section (which was the one that hooked me in most, making the end of the volume feel abrupt).

It did leave me interested enough to pick up the next volume though, so I'm hoping the past and present will be a little more intertwined in the next ones!

EDIT: I'm guessing the assumption is that readers of this series will have already read the other three Robyn volumes. I didn't know they existed until just now, so, whoops? Maybe backtracking will help me to better enjoy these.

the story is like, cool (and maybe a bit clunky at times) mix of urban fantasy/noir about a female PI who has a whole backstory as a hero in a mystical realm!!! the art is like, but how can we sell this to dudes ... oh .... i know ......
