The plot is definitely excellent, with the intrigue and the subterfuge and the awesome. But while I enjoyed Bartimaeus and his trickery, I couldn't have cared less about Asmira, who is quite possibly dumber than Nathaniel and not nearly as entertaining when bad things happen to her, because who cares?

Not as special as the main trilogy, but lots of fun and consistent with the characters, with interesting background.

This book seals my love for the Bartimaeus series even more and I am certain that the series is one of my favourites.

What is not to love about the book? There's Bartimaeus who I've adored from the very beginning (one of my favourite characters). I was happy that he has always been a proud witty loud-mouthed djinni. I like the flaws in Asmira and how easy it is to connect with her. It was nice to have Farqual around and of course, King Solomon who I've always thought to be a lovable fellow since Bartimaeus likes to take his guise.

But the thing that I love the most is Bartimaeus's characteristic. Even though he hates being summoned he find ways to make the job enjoyable. Even though he's supposed to portray a typical evil djinni, he still has heart and knows how to evaluate a situation the best that he could and the advises that he give are always great.

I was actually a little bit nervous when I started reading the book only because the trilogy was really good and I was worried that this didn't live up to my expectations, but it didn't dissapoint me at all. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the book and Jonathan Stroud, I applaud you for writing this series, one that I will always come back to for years to come.

As fantastic as ever. Seriously, Bartimaeus is the best created witty, sarcastic, sharp-tongued creature ever created

I liked it a little more than the others, but I guess it's not really my thing... I like the characters though, especially Solomon.

I’m a great fan of Jonathan Stroud’s Bartimaeus trilogy, and feel like Simon Jones could narrate a self-help book or an instructional audible about how to balance your checkbook, and I would listen to hear his voice. In fact, I think he may do just that. He’s an incredible talent and is the perfect person to capture Bartimaeus’ idiosyncrasies, so it was a joy to listen to this one.

Story wise, as I didn’t review directly after reading, I’m already losing details. Much of the action involves Bartimaeus and the hereditary guard of the Queen of Sheba, Asmira. While she’s no Nathaniel and I spent a functional portion of the end of the book wishing to strangle her, I was delighted to see the characters shared my frustration. There’s a lot of red herrings and misdirection and despite a couple of seams towards the end of the book (I felt like the initial reaction of the Queen was slightly overdone.) I felt that the story was well-fleshed out and deepened the characters from their first sighting. I wish it had gone just a tad bit further, but it’s Bartimeaus, so I’m not going to quibble.

I also have no memory of whether these events were mentioned at all during the trilogy?
