Hooked from the get go. Well-timed twists and all plots answered. The ending wrapped up in a neat little bow. Loved it from beginning to end - literally could not put it down

I really almost quit reading this 30% in. The writing was almost like it was meant for teenagers. The storyline was what kept me going. So many grammatical errors. The same exact tone for every character. Nothing changed. Whether it was Mackenzie, the letter, Ben, or anyone else, the same mannerisms and phrases repeated so it was all one character it seemed. The storyline was what bumped it up to 3 stars, but l'm not sure why this book is so highly recommended by people. Not a fan.

This book hooked me immediately. I was only about 10% in when I realized I didn’t want to put it down—even just to make dinner. That’s the kind of momentum Love, Mom delivers right from the start.

The characters are what really carry the story. Mackenzie is a strong, emotionally layered protagonist who feels raw and relatable—especially for anyone who’s ever tried to untangle grief tied up in complicated relationships. EJ is a standout supporting character, and I loved the goth/emo vibe threaded through Mackenzie’s personality. It added a layer of authenticity that made her voice distinct and memorable.

The contemporary setting really works in this one. The integration of AI, true crime obsession, and our very online world feels current without being gimmicky. It grounds the narrative in something that feels both intimate and universal—especially for readers who’ve ever had a strained connection with a parent.

The content warning is definitely important to note: there are multiple mentions of r*pe in this book. It’s not gratuitous, but it is pivotal and could be triggering.

Tonya is ruthless, and not in a cartoonish villain way—more like a deeply human, damaged way that makes Mackenzie’s emotional spiral feel all the more real. The depiction of grief here—especially grief tied to trauma or unresolved hurt—is thoughtful and deeply felt.

I flew through this book and didn’t even stop long enough to post a “midway thoughts” update. The ending wasn’t quite what I expected and felt a little offbeat, but it didn’t take away from how much I was pulled in by the characters and emotional threads.

If you like contemporary fiction with bite, emotional complexity, and a dark edge—this one’s worth picking up.

“Punishment is white. Revenge is red. Mine was bloody-black.”

Part 1 starts slow, but everything changes with part 2 that makes it worth it!

There was a lot of hype surrounding this book and while it’s good, it’s not jaw dropping. The twists were great but started becoming predictable (maybe I just read too many thrillers). In my opinion it was also VERY drawn out, it could’ve ended about 2 hours earlier. Over all it kept my interest but it wasn’t spectacular.

overall would recommend. i didn’t love some of the writing in part three, i was kinda confusing to follow along with when the professor found out the situation and if he had any ideas he knew in old bow.  but i loved the POV from dianne and grunger (even though i find him icky). i wish they gave a pov from tonya and the grandmom not sure how i feel that she spent her life with two people who weren’t her parents.
