I think this book could have been written better, the plot had a lot of potential but it was hard to believe. If there was a nuclear war, how is it that one island near the area survived with no damage. The US is not going to let a bunch of college kids live there untouched. That just wouldn’t happen, especially since it seems like its post Pandemic… and then the Navy sends in a seals 19 year old daughter undercover, she’s not even in the Navy. It’s just not believable. The author also describes one of the black characters as ‘the queen of hip-hop’ because she has an Afro… also the two main love interests are white and Callie says she feels like a tribal woman looking at her tribal man because he has tattoos

Now for Callie and Kai. I wish I could just shake them and knock their heads together. The whole issue with them is miscommunication but about SA. It’s actually pretty disgusting.
She thinks he SA’d her in college but doesn’t remember due to being drugged. In actuality he just put her to bed. She is mainly upset about the whole situation because she liked him and doesn’t remember the sex. It’s gross. THEN, instead of talking to him about it, she ghosts him. Her then bf at the time throws him into a fire pit where he gets second degree burns all over his body.

It really could have been great.

This one felt kinda confused. I don't get the enemies portion of this enemies to lovers book, since Callie ans Kai only hated each other for about a chapter. Easy read, quick moving, not a whole lot of small talk through the whole thing. Pretty decent read.

refreshing take on a post apocalyptic world

Outcast by Lexi Ray is book 1 of the Ruthless Paradise series, it’s a post apocalyptic world where pre apocalypse drama is now just as dangerous as the apocalypse itself for our Main characters.

This is definitely an enemies to lovers romance with a tragic backstory to complicated all the emotional baggage.

I loved getting to know these characters and how the author really made sure you know where they’re coming from and why they have such dramatic reactions to each other. I’ll for sure be getting to book 2 to see what comes next.
