This story follows three women and the circumstances that led them to be in the Florida keys in 1935 when a hurricane strikes. I thought the setting and the characters were interesting, but the three disparate story lines were a lot to cover in one book, and so they might have benefited from a more in-depth treatment.

This was a fun read! I've really enjoyed all of Cleeton's books and love how the different characters come together! I knew about the Bonus Army but didn't know about the camps down in the Keys, and I am eager to learn more about that now.
I’m a sucker for good endings and light climaxes. Not too stressful. Especially during these times. There’s enough stress in real story life right now, so this was a good break from that. Okay back to the book. I listened to this book in a matter of days and it had my attention all the way through. Each of the main characters stories were interesting enough to want to know what happened next on their journeys. I liked how the story connected each of them. Overall a really good and easy read. Just a good story that was centered around an actual event. Wanna escape the madness of 2020, this is a good story to do just that.
I enjoyed learning about the history behind this book but 3 stars because it was a little too sappy for me.

I liked learning about the 1935 cat 5 hurricane and the squalid "camps" for WWI vets.
Rounding up from 4 and half stars. All through the book, I felt it was going to be a 5 star read. At the end, I felt the stories of the 3 women wrapped up a little quickly and predictably. However, they were all interesting characters and the pages flew by. Learning about the veteran camps and the horrific hurricane in Key West gave the story weight and relevance.
This book was an interesting historical fiction/romance/interweaving character novel. It was fairly predictable—- I had guessed each of the various “twists” before they happened. But I enjoyed the characters and the bit of history about an event I didn’t know about previously.
