4.02 AVERAGE

I enjoyed the concept of this one but found myself expecting more plot line interaction between the female leads. Overall it was a quick read and enlightening to learn about the history of WWI vets in the Keys and the construction of the Highway.

2.5 stars

I expected this book to have a little more substance, but it was really just a lot of fluff and elementary writing. There were some interesting things to be learned about Key West in the post-WWI-era, and the creation of the train -- but otherwise, the relationships between the women and their men were completely contrived and lacked realism. For some people, that may be just what they're interested in reading, but for me it wasn't enough.

Yowsers, best book of the year so far! (Not saying much, being as it's the fifth book I read this year, but still...). Fascinating setting, well-developed characters, enthralling plot and just enough twists to make it interesting. I knew all the stories were going to weave together in interesting ways, but Cleeton still managed to surprise me with some of the reveals. For a while, I wasn't an Elizabeth fan and would breeze through her sections a little faster than the others, but I came around and was rooting for everyone by the end. Also met my criteria for a satisfying ending. Loved it.

If I hadn't predicted the path of the story, I'd have given this book 4 stars.

3.5 stars. Interesting time period and setting, but I wanted more depth from the three woman and their romances. Basically it was a great setup, but the end fell flat.

I really enjoyed learning a little bit about this moment in history that isn’t talked about all that much. I thought the three main characters were very likable and relatable. I enjoyed how the different characters in the book we’re all connected in some small way. I do wish they could’ve developed those relationships a little deeper. Thus the four out of five stars.
