Civil War: A Marvel Comics Event by Mark Millar

2015 review:

Eh, it was okay. I mostly read it for the Young Avengers. I wasn't very pleased with the ending. It's probably fine if you're a huge Marvel fan and have the time and energy to pick up all following issues, but I don't want to do that. (I know, I know, my fault for reading this in the first place.) The artwork was good.

Interesting. A reality type show with super heroes puts the real super heroes in a bad place in the public eye.
Leading to politics getting involved.
Boo hiss! I'm tired of political shit right now.

You have one side led by Tony Stark and Reid Richards wanting to support the public's opinion that superheroes should go on the payroll, with no secret identities. Then Captain America steps up for the other side. Hmm.. I kinda always thought he was kinda bland until now.

Having ever only seen the Marvel movies, I was excited to finally get to read the source material. And guys, it was so good. Yes, it's different from the movie and there's so many other characters involved that I've never met, but the underlying story is the same. Captain America and Iron Man have very different thoughts on how the Avengers should proceed. This sadly leads to a giant dispute which splits the group down the middle and even causes the life of one their own. The artwork was fantastic, adding a beautiful visual backdrop to this story. Recommend for any Marvel fan!

It was certainly interesting to see how the sides played out. I felt torn between the conflicting views and I thought the end was thought provoking. It felt a lot like I was reading an alternate version of "Watchman" which I have mixed feelings about. I missed the banter, but it made sense for a lot of that to be on hold.

One thing that I could have definitely done without were all the T&A shots. Seriously, it's ludicrous how gratuitous those "close ups" were.

Now hold on a second.
