During the captivity portion, this book reminded me of Room, if it was written from the woman's perspective. An incredibly hard read, but well done in my opinion. The mystery integration in the second half felt natural and not shoehorned in.

One thing, and it's not even really a complaint, but having the narrative set in therapy sessions didn't do much for the story. The therapist has little role (and never any dialogue), so I mostly forgot Main Character was always talking to a therapist until she'd suddenly address "Doc" at the end of each chapter.

I love a book that’s good not in the sense that you’re happy or loved it but the tough way. This book was rough and I actually had no idea what the end would be but I really liked it!

I started out very intrigued and was really disappointed w/ the last third of the book. Just didn't make sense to me. When she almost got abducted a second time is when I started to go, "what the heck?"

I liked the pace and the way the story unfolds. Can’t really say anything else as I feel as it may be a spoiler. But I hate the freak with a passion and each scene with him made me so uncomfortable and mad.

I seem to be hitting a run of depressing books at the moment. This book was a good book, a real page turner, but the story was depressing all the same.

In the story, Annie O'Sullivan is a real estate agent who is kidnapped and held hostage for a year by a psychopath who seems to want to bring up a nuclear family away from the impact of the world.

The story isn't told "as it happen." It's told as a series of sessions with a psychotherapist, in which she recounts what she's been going through. This was a clever plot device, but made the book more depressing for the reader, because it made it clear what it was like for her after she returned to "normal society."

In short it's a rattling read. I found it depressing, but you'll want to know what happened to her in the end.

p.s. If you're English, this book will almost automatically remind you of Suzy Lamplugh. The story's bound to be different, but the context is the same.
