I love productions of this so I’m glad to have finally read it. Very heartwarming and uplifting. Surprised by certain parts I’ve never seen in any versions, so greatly loved reading the original.
Jim Dales’s amazing narration made this book a sheer delight. Perfect book to listen to while wrapping presents.

I’ve seen the play a million times but I liked reading it- I loved reading the change in him at the end. A quick read that’s uplifting!
What is there to say about this? The story's been told for over a hundred years for a reason. I remember trying to read this many years ago, but was a little unsettled by Ignorance and Want, so I never finished it. I decided this was the year I would finally get all the way through this book.
The story is so familiar to me that it was all the stuff I didn't recognize that I found most interesting. Scrooge's time with Christmas Present was particularly interesting. I liked how they visited many people celebrating the holiday, and not just those who were connected to Scrooge in some way. I wish more adaptations did this, because it gives such a broad view of how people can find Christmas cheer no matter who they are or their circumstances.
The ending was also interesting to me. Pretty much every adaptation I've seen has Scrooge visiting the Cratchits on Christmas day, but in the original he doesn't do this. Again, I wish more adaptations took this into account. I found it was very important that Scrooge spend Christmas day with his family and allowed Bob to spend it with his. I also really liked that the turkey was sent to the Cratchits anonymously, which is much more in the spirit of giving.
I'm glad I finally took the time to read the story. Now when I go back to visit the adaptations, I can appreciate the similarities and differences much more.
