⭐️ 4.5 "Chase the Stars" Stars ⭐️
Oh, how I love Catherine Cowles's small town romances. There's always something magical about her stories and Falling Embers had me spellbound! I'm a huge fan of single dad romances too, so I was in heaven with Hadley and Calder's poignant, slow burn romance!
Hadley is such a relatable heroine and I enjoyed her personality a lot. She's an adrenaline junkie, always seeking her next thrilling adventure. After growing up with her mother's oppressive protectiveness, she now lives to be free. Now as a young independant woman, she's still affected by her mother's expectations and those scenes had me feeling so sad for her. But admired her convictions and strength. She's such a caring person and has a great bond with Calder's twin daugthers. I really liked these moments between them.
Calder was also an amazing hero. He's been hurt and betrayed in the past and now is only priority is his girls. He always had a singular and beautiful connection with Hadley, but being a father made him afraid of her recklessness. After years of staying away from her, he just can't resist anymore. I loved the rebuild of their relationship from friends to lovers. Such a gorgeous love story for them full of passion and emotion.
This book also provided the right dose of suspense and gave me more of the supporting characters I learned to love in book one of the Tattered and Torn Series. Falling Embers was such a memorable read! I'm now so invested in knowing more about Beckett and Addie in the next novel, Hidden Waters.

I finished this one several days ago and still have conflicted feelings. Yes, it was a good book but I confess, it did not meet my high expectations. There was so much anticipation for this story in Tattered Stars, and I expected this intense, epic love story. Sadly, there was not enough backstory or emotion that I associate with CC. So many past events were glossed over. I adored the girls and their relationship with Hadley. The mystery aspect was solid, and of course, I continued love this world. I am so excited for the next couple!

Soooo Hadley and Calder. What to say about them other than I love them. Her determination to be her own person was so empowering to read. And they way he learned to let go so he could fully love her was ugh BEAUTIFUL

Maybe I'm not in the right mood for it, but it felt waaaaay too Hallmarky for me.
