I read a lot of books, and I love and enjoy many of those books. But there are few books that immediately after starting I know is going to ruin my life with how much I'm going to love and obsess over it. And as soon as I started Catherine Cowles' Falling Embers I knew that this was going to be one of those books, and I was right. I don't know what it was that struck a cord with me, but I was just instantly hooked on this book, finishing it in maybe three hours, and it isn't a fluff filled book that you just zip through. There is a lot of emotion, and drama stemming from unresolved past trauma. I just can't say enough about how much I loved this book. Falling Embers is the first book I've read in her The Tattered and Torn Series, and any of her books and I now plan on going through her book catalog so I can get more of her writing, and I cannot wait for her next book to come out either. I also absolutely loved the suspense aspect of the story, wanting to know who Hadley's stalker and troll was, I will admit that I suspected two people and I ended up being correct so I feel like a detective.
Ever since Hadley's sister, Shiloh was kidnapped when they were children she has been suffocated by her mother. Growing up her mother wouldn't let her do anything for fear of something happening to her and now it doesn't matter what she does but she can't seem to ever do anything right in her mothers eyes. If it weren't for her brother's best friend, Calder, teaching her extreme sports as a teenager she doesn't know how she would have survived growing up. Hadley always being in love with him didn't hurt either. While she and Calder have had a huge falling out in the last few years she has always be there for him and his twin daughters. Hadley is done waiting for Calder to open his eyes, but just as she's about to give up he starts to open his eyes...
Calder has always loved being with Hadley, even when he had other priorities in his life. But because of that he almost lost the two most important people in his life, his daughters, Sage and Birdie. So he cut Hadley out of his personal life, but as they work together and she helps with his daughters he's never really escaped his feelings for her. But one day he realizes what a mistake he's made with Hadley and just how much he loves her as more than a friend. But when Hadley starts being harassed by an anonymous stalker connected to her online extreme sports videos he steps up to make sure that Hadley stays safe. Can Calder keep Hadley and his girls safe from whoever this stalker is?

I don't know how Cowles keeps getting better with not only each series but each book but she did it again. Cowles is truly becoming a queen of romantic suspense! This one we get a bunch of twists and turns and mystery of who is harassing Hadley aka Little Daredevil. Calder and Hadley had chemistry sparking in book one so this was not different just on higher air tricks. Calder is the local hot firefighter with two of the funniest and sweetest kids, that you will love more and more throughout the book. Hadley is the EMT that he works with but also is his best friends little sister, who became a close friend to help her years ago. We get the same small town setting of OR and great side characters with some major family drama.
Soooo good! I can't wait for another one of these and hope its a long -many pages series, as I can't get enough. I had book hangover from this one on both days I read it.

Catherine Cowles is a favorite author who pens beautiful and moving romantic suspense. Falling Embers is no exception. I fell in love with Tattered Stars and didn't hesitate to pick up book 2 of the series.
She'd been playing with fire hiding her private life from her family; now all hell's going to break loose.
This book is Hadley and Calder's story. They have loved each other forever, but circumstances veered their path and broke them apart. It's one terrifying moment, one life-changing instant when Calder realizes he cannot live without the only person who balances him and gives him peace. It's just that now he has to convince her to trust him again.
Hadley is an EMT and an adrenaline junky who loves the feel of freedom. Freedom to be herself. She learned to be alone from a family who didn't get her, and the man who walked away from her without a second glance. All Hadley wants is to live her life without feeling like she’s doing anything wrong. She hides the reckless part of herself to stay sane from her mother's disapproval and fear. Calder is a firefighter and he is such a great single dad. After a terrifying incident, he finally realizes that he pushed the only woman he loved away when she needed him most. Calder's work is cut out for him because Hadley doesn't want a broken heart again. But with the help of Calder's adorable twin girls, Sage and Birdie, and the support of Hadley's brother and friends, hope is on his side. Unfortunately, someone has it in for Hadley and is threatening her life. I had my guesses about who the culprit was but there are some surprising twists and turns that keep the story interesting.
Again, Hadley's family is a vital addition to this series. Hayes's protective instinct as the sheriff of Wolf Gap and Hadley's brother is crucial to helping Hadley. Haye's fiancee Everly's calm demeanor and kindness keep peace among the chaos. And Hadley's mother is so unlikeable when she demeans and crushes Hadley's feelings from the fear of her past. That relationship will need some work over time.
As in most Catherine Cowles stories, there is a deluge of emotions including laughter, angst, heartbreak, and suspense. If you love alluring characters, beautiful scenery, and a captivating plot, give this book a try.
Thank you to Ms. Cowles for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
