this novella was exceptional, and jenni fagan’s writing is incredibly beautiful. so so captivating and my heart hurts at what so many girls went through during those trials. so many lines resonated deeply with me, and i loved the way this story was told. despite the upsetting subject, i absolutely loved this story and i will 100% be reading more from jenni fagan!!

I love the concept of this book. It's interesting and heartbreaking and I believe this is a story that needs to be told.
Unfortunately, this book doesn't tell it well. It reads somewhat like western liberal feminism vomited onto pages. It's like I'm reading rage but it's written like metaphorical lyrical poetry, if the poetry was written by rupi kaur.
Will not dunk on it more. I will say that we need more books that talk about how women have been forced to diminish themselves.
Also,bI love that this book didn't hold back on describing the violence that Gilleas had to endure. We can't change anything if we his from the brutality that is suffered by those around us and this book understands that.

The part at the beginning of chapter was confusing and pointless in my opinion.
Apart from that, beautiful writing. We love a historical witch story, that still is relevant today. Some great quotes and poetic phrasing.
