An insanely bleak and ruthless odyssey along the Texas-Mexico border. The Judge, the kid, John Joel Glanton and Toadvine all being very compelling characters, a bit of a hard read at times but the way McCarthy wrote this novel astounded me from start to finish, excited to read again in the future

A story of epic proportion. Definitely something to consider before reading is that this was the way the world was, and is in certain regards (based on true events). The chaotic and warring nature of humanity is on full display. Despite being a gorey and turbulent book that describes ultimate scenes of murder and destruction, Cormack McCarthy spins a yarn finer than most looms. The elegance and beauty of the simplest things, such as the desert or sprawling plains and tall mountains alike, the beautiful ways he can construct a run on sentace that lasts a paragraph with no commas completely immerses you into a world you've never seen but can clearly visualize with great fervor. An absolute gripping tale. I was hooked immediately.
the greed and arrogance on display by each character individually leads to the eventual downfall of the Glantons gang, there is a clear path of victory for them and they went beyond the boundaries of their capabilities. The Mennonite's words were truly meant for the blood riders and not the army as it would seem. Spoiled with riches beyond imagination, the list for more is what ends the riders ultimately. If all had cut loose after their massive victory in Sonora, they would have all survived.

Not for the faint of heart. But an adventurous tale that really encapsulates the old West in a way that may never be duplicated. Just as the ending implies, this books will never sleep, and it will never die.
