Misogynistic & strange tonally. Can see why it holds its depressive suicidal reputation.

I think I need to grow up and come back to it when I am older and wiser. A lot of things felt too, coy and dry. The orientalistic description of countries and the misogynistic tinge of details didn't help either. It started off very very good, really.

a search for the source of the narrator's obsession with death — the escape from the inversions of life and its reflections and repetitions holds a haunting allure. the inscrutable nature of life's inverted deformations which resolve in its ceasing.

the inescapable vision of the woman whose eyes torments him as the death awareness takes root in his heart — an unshakeable truth he can only escape in moments of drug induced ecstacy, which leads backwards through time and into a deepening hallucinatory madness.

the prose is layered with poetic symbolism — fragmented and displayed in shifting transmutations as a deepening despair at a debased continuity overtakes the narrator with a fervent wish for escape from the reflective, iterative nature of life's masks and facades — where echoes of past events determines one's arbitrary and impersonal fate reverberating throughout time and space, mixing with his inner visions into an oroboros of dualistic imagery.

Really not my thing and hard to stomach, but incredibly well written for the most part
