Oh dag I forgot to write a review after I finished it, but there are, in fact, one or two pretty good stories in here. Something about a distant figure getting closer and more upset? Shrinking and contracting rooms? And I feel like I read the story about the little nephew somewhere else and remembered being just as satisfied then as this time.

Anyway, the guy who writes and performs the Magnus Archives podcast mentioned it and so here I am.

There are 4 short stories in this volume. It's not bad, I simply didn't feel much. The Ash-Tree was the best one - the last one. I didn't care for the art either. The 3rd story was also good - the Mizzotint. There was creepy and it's good to read around the October. It seemed Hollow some how. I felt there is potential here and something was a little off. I am glad I read it as it was not a waste of time.

You might really enjoy this. They are stories set in the 1700 and 1800s. They are macabre nature. The story was simply missing something for me.

The stories in this collection were hit-or-miss, in my opinion. I quite enjoyed The Judge's House by Brom Stoker, To Be Taken with a Grain of Salt by Charles Dickens, The Upper Berth by F. Marion Crawford, and Who Knows? By Guy de Maupassant. The others were either not particularly scary or simply dull.

The presence of "Oh, Whistle and I'll Come To You My Lad" means automatic 5 stars as I think it is the best ghost story of all time, but even without it this is a really outstanding collection of stories.

Variety of Edwardian ghost stories that were fun.
