For some reason, this series was a lot to digest and a very slow read for me.
In theory I should have loved it for all of the dark romance themes, but the miscommunication trope was SUCH a drag. I spent so much time internally screaming for the FMC to just tell the MMC the truth, literally just one sentence would have cleared everything up and resolved all of their relationship issues
Over the course of the three books, we see our couple find their way back to love, and back to each other, but only after a considerable amount of trauma that would not realistically be wrapped up so easily with a bow for an HEA. I just felt sad for the main characters, rather than the thrill that usually accompanies this genre.
Additionally, as much as I self identify as a SMUT lover, dare I say there was too much sex between the two? I feel like they just wanted to hump each other 24/7 instead of having constructive conversations.
Graphic: Sexual content, Violence, Murder
Moderate: Child abuse, Death, Domestic abuse, Drug use, Gun violence, Miscarriage, Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Toxic relationship, Sexual harassment
Minor: Suicide attempt, Death of parent, Pregnancy

Listening to this story come to life was absolutely everything. Teddy Hamilton and Lucy Rivers were perfect as Kade and Stacey.
I shout this trilogy from the rooftops any chance I get, and being back in this world reminded me just how much I love it here. The laughs, the tears, the spice, getting to live it all again has altered my brain chemistry.
I can never thank Leigh enough for creating these characters and allowing us to spend time in their story. This trilogy is hands down my Roman Empire, and I will forever be in love with it. A million thanks to Leigh and East House Productions for blessing my ears with this ALC. My life is forever changed once again by Kade Mitchell.

An absolutely wild ride.
The yearning in this book? Immaculate. He hates her, but he's completely obsessed and the tension is delicious. Leigh Rivers doesn't shy away from difficult themes, and they're handled with nuance and care, pulling you deeper into the story with every chapter.
What kept this from being a full 5⭐️ for me was the use of the miscommunication trope, it’s there, and not handled quite as well as it could have been.
That said, this book leans into beloved romance clichés, "who did this to you," "touch her and die," "only one bed", but somehow it works. The tropes feel earned, fitting seamlessly with the characters’ personalities and emotional arcs, rather than coming off as cringey or forced.
It ends on a cliffhanger (rude!), but luckily the trilogy is complete, so I can start the next one right away!
Spice level: 4🌶️
Favorite quotes:
"When I find out who hurt you, I'm going to fucking destroy them. I'll make sure to bleed them dry then fuck you next to their corpse. You got that?"
"Tossing my friend into the fire could be passed off as an accident, right?"
"I want you to ride my face, suffocate me with that pussy."
"Are you smiling? Don't do that, it's weird."

I’m not sure where ai stand with this book. It definitely kept me wanting to know what was going to happen, bit also had me rolling my eyes several times. It’s dark, there’s drugs, sex, violence, abuse, but everything seems forced. There’s no romance to go with it, which makes it less interesting to me, I don’t mind a brooding and sometimes possessive man when he’s acting out of love and to protect, which in theory it’s what’s happening in this book, but because of how their relationship is portrayed, it didn’t really work for me. I will read the next one because I want to know if they’ll get a chance to talk and finally be on the same page, and also because I need to see Chris burn, so we’ll see what happens.
