I didn’t go into this one with high expectations because I didn’t like Little Stranger (which seems to be the author’s most popular book right now). But I saw so many people talking about how dark it is and wanted to give it a try and I’m glad I did. This is a dark, forbidden (twin sisters’ best friend) romance and deals with some heavy topics. Told in both flashbacks and what’s happening currently in their lives I found the enemies-to-lovers (or hate to love to hate etc.) to be on point. Was it completely believable? No. But it was done well enough, and the tension was strong. There’s also a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that adds to the suspense of the story and those dark elements were really well written. Kade is a great morally grey hero but he’s not as awful as some I’ve read so it was easy to love him early on despite all the miscommunication and hate towards Stacey.
If you like new adult dark romance with romantic suspense (I’d like to say this is as close to a mafia romance without BEING a mafia romance) then I think you’ll enjoy this one. Just be warned that this book deals with dark themes like being drugged, being sexually assaulted while drugged, talk of pregnancy loss, physical and emotional abuse, violence, and murder.

Whilst only just diving into the whole dark romance genre. This is a stand out. The story of the MC, constantly fighting his own inner conflicts whilst teasing and keeping an eye on his former love interest had me hooked.
The violence, the sex, the flashbacks. This book had it all and left me hankering for more. An absolutely solid book that I'd highly recommend.

Wow, when I first met Kade in the car, my head nearly snapped when I whipped around to look at him. I wanted to climb on him like a tree and bite him. He is the true definition of morally grey. Stacey is going through so much. Beware of TW before going into this book. I devoured this book in one sitting and picked up the second one.

I found it incredibly frustrating that the book’s premise and reason for the current dynamic between the FMC and MMC is entirely miscommunication. I know it happens, but after all they go through in this book, the FMC cant bring it up? I find her reasoning for not bringing it up lacking as well, especially as she learns more about the MMC.
4 stars because despite my annoyance with the driving force for the dynamic between FMC and MMC, I was still rooting for them and frantically turning pages looking for a HEA. As book 1 of a series, I guess I’ll have to read the next book to find out.
