This book worked for:
~ slow burn romance
~ so adorable
~ great friends group

There is so much heart in this sweet little book! Really a fun read.

Special thanks to Edelweiss and G.P. Putnam's Sons (Penguin Publishing Group) for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.

I should probably have DNF'd this earlier. Around the 65-75% mark (updated: those are inaccurate percentages because the last 12% of the book are acknowledgements and discussion guide and an excerpt) I was just so bored, but didn't want to DNF so late in the game. Basically the conflict was 100% expected, which isn't unusual in a romance, but this just felt extra unnecessary. I get that the main character has a backstory to explain her behaviour, I just didn't feel like the author made it work in a satisfactory manner. The main character has a (fair enough, significant) setback in like the first chapter, and then from there on out she has basically everything handed to her.  Also, the love interest dude is way too perfect.

At some point the book, the main character thinks to herself "It's like I dreamed up this super-perfect boyfriend and he just popped into existence", and if you extend that to also cover a super-perfect living arrangement and a super-perfect business arrangement, that's pretty much the book.

Edit: Also, it was weird to read this right after Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, because both characters are named Sadie Green, and it makes so much sense for both of them.

Sadie Green was feeling low. She had just been passed over for a promotion at work. The job she had worked so hard for was given to her boss’s son-in-law to be. Now she needed a new plan. A new job, a cheaper place to live, and maybe some uncomplicated sex thrown in as well. She went to her favorite bar to meet some friends and started drinking hoping to lift her spirits. After a while, she opened her dating app to see if anyone looked interesting. Quickly, she had a match and he wanted to meet the next day. When Sadie met Jack, he immediately started asking her very strange questions for a first date, such as how would she describe her overall temperament. When she asked him why he would ask a question like that when they had just met, he was confused. Jack was there to interview her as a potential roommate. Apparently, Sadie had opened an apartment finding app instead of the dating one. She did need a new apartment and decided to answer his questions. Meeting Jack turned out to be one of the best mistakes she had ever made. They got along very well. After a while, both thought this could turn into more than roommates.

This was an interesting premise for a story. I liked both main characters. Sadie was lively, friendly, and open to new possibilities. Jack was quiet and shy, but a bit unrealistic to me. He owned a huge three-story brownstone in Brooklyn and lived alone. He was looking for companionship and wanted a roommate to share the space. The brownstone was huge and had everything Sadie needed and more. The rent Jack was asking for was extremely low. Sadie thought the rent quote was possibly missing a zero. I often thought “Who would ever do this?” or “No one like this exists" when thinking about Jack. Overall, I enjoyed the story, I just wished Jack’s character was a little more believable.

I forced myself halfway through this book. The FMC is VERY annoying, selfish, and RUDE. The MMC is so kind and giving; her friends are kind and giving, but the FMC was horrendous. She treated all of them horribly, and then they would praise her for being so nice. Um, where and when? Because I don't recall a single instance. Also, the author threw around a ton of cuss words that added nothing to the sentence... Cussing just to sound cooler, like we all did in middle school... It was not a good book at all and I would not recommend it to anyone; I'm so confused on how it is highly praised and recommended. 🤢
