Jan. 3, 2024: I have NEVER reviewed a book in real-time (as I’m reading) but I read the dedication and immediately ran here to start this review.

For the girls who were broken by those that should have protected them.
For the women we were forced to become all too soon.
May we all, finally, be free.

I am a survivor of things that forced me to grow up far too quickly. I am definitely part of the target audience that this dedication is speaking to. There’s probably something wrong with me but, in the best way possible, I want this book to damage me. I’m excited to dive in and I’ll update soon!

Jan. 4, 2024: Well, all finished! I only slept for a couple hours last night. I ended up devouring this book and starting the second one. It didn't end up breaking me but I hoping the rest of the series does.

Emberly Ash did a great job with this book! The story between Arran and Veyka was one filled with secrets, vulnerability, magic, hate and love! It was a Fae story done different and creatively! I would note one portion of the story includes sexual assault of a child, though brief. It was the only part of the story I did not enjoy. Thank you to @netgalley for the opportunity to read this book!!

Arthurian fae dark romance with plot intrigue and a hate to love romance? Absolutely everything I could have wanted out of this. Veyka being a moody and self destructive FMC was always gonna be a love for me as well. The last page is WHEW!! I will be cracking open the next book instantly!!

I can't quite figure out what all of the Arthurian elements are doing. They're clearly intentional from the names down, but not consistent enough to tell a story. And there's enough here to be a story of its own without an Arthur here and a Guenivere there. I appreciated the growth arc and it's more a story about found family than there are answers to the big mysteries. Curious to see what book two will bring.
