Can’t believe I finally finished this 800 page monstrosity. Its the first Dickens I’ve finished (never finished tale of two cities in high school) and I enjoyed it more than I expected. Parts of it felt longer than they needed to be but since this is semi autobiographical I’ll give Dickens some space to be lengthy :)

Tuning out of your own life to live vicariously in 19th century London. It was a great ride, I can see why Dickens considered this his opus.

I mean, it's Dickens. What's not to love?

I can say that when I first read this book as a teen, I skipped over large swaths of the descriptions, thinking it overly wordy (I do this with many books, I get impatient.) But now that I know that Dickens was paid by the word, and so embellished even the most simple of sentences, I'm getting an extra layer of enjoyment out of this story. SO much that's not necessary. It's hilarious.

I finished my #BigBookSummer with a bang this year, spending August immersed in David Copperfield and loving every minute of Dickens' clever, witty writing! Read my full review:
