I have a real love-hate relationship with Dickens.
I first read this book in high school, and to this day when I hear a really annoying voice, that nails-on-a-chalk-board voice, I think of Uriah Heep.
Little boys can never have a happy childhood in a Dickens book.
The wealthy and powerful always abuse the poor and innocent, and poor little David Copperfield was poor and innocent.
As we have seen with other Dickens characters, those born into wealth are easily corrupted by their own greatness, while those who struggle in life tend to be stronger in compassion and morality.

An absolute masterpiece. Strong autobiographical elements. A marvellous example of how to manage a huge cast of characters and a complex plot.

Love this book. I can't stop thinking through the story and it's loveable characters. As is usually the case, upon finishing the book, I missed reading and seeing the ways that the cahracters interacted and lived there lives.
While this story has much less of a climactic plot than, say, A Tale of Two Cities, it is superb Dickens and an absolute pleasure to read.

The classics can be a bit much but this one hits the mark! The way Charles Dickens mimics his life is incredible. I really liked the journey of Copperfield’s life.

I've been trying to like Charles Dickens for years and this book convinced me that it might not be in the cards for me. I'm not giving up since this book is certainly a brick, but I am sure now that Dickens might not be for everyone.
I appreciated Dicken's Liberal ideals and the way that he really showcased a lot of the issues he saw in the society that he lived in. I also really appreciate seeing how Dickens was one of the Victorian writers that got a lot of people interested in characters and how that impact has changed novels overtime leading to the modern novels we know and love today.
I do sort of wish that Dickens put slightly less of a rosy tint on things but perhaps that's due to my modern sensibilities or being used to being hit over the head with an idea or a theme.
Anyway, I know many many people feel that Dickens is still totally relevant, hence its classic status, but I'm not quite convinced. Relevant with context maybe, but still a timeless and enjoyable read for any era? I'm not so sure.
So 3 stars because I didn't enjoy it at all but I can respect it.
